You look a lot less intense these days when you are playing Paul. :D

Barbara was no mean pick blocker herself in those days, but she can't have failed to be impressed with that young whipper snapper.

Priceless video Paul! ..

I guess that kind of shows what an MSA can sound like in the right hands.. it's not dark sounding at all. :whoa:

Paul..(from a different planet ).Franklin

Post by Ivor Greenwood »

I sat in the front row at Dallas, back in March, listening to Mr Franklin and wondering, How the heck can anybody get that good...Well listening to that video, just got me the answer. Playing like that at 17 , means he started before he was born...Hope you will be back next year Paul........

Wow, Paul! You used to be a pretty good picker!
Yeah... Too bad you didn't get better or keep at it. You might have become an icon in the steel guitar world.

Seriously, at what age did you start playing?

I like the afro era too. I even tried to imitate Paul in the 80's

Great Hairy Pickin'! :))))))))))

Post by Carl Williams »

Paul,
Thanks for allowing us "wanna bees" to hear some great pickin' and you may have been a little insensitive by showing off a great head of hair with some of our "over 50/that means most of us" who are indeed challenged in this area! ;-) Some superb "chicken pickin" going on there for sure! CW

Got me an MSA just like that back around 75- chopped it in for an MCI a while later! Maybe 'cos it didn't have any of those licks on it! Hah. Come to think of it nor did the MCI ?!

You guys in the states had a huge head start on us boys across the pond when getting in to PSG, some have caught up over here but none to Pauls level..or

Hi Gus, what about David Hartley? IMO, one of the best and look at all the videos and tabs that he has written so that many of us can learn his "licks".

Please forgive me, but I forgot to mention John Stannard and his, IMO, outstanding picking. I enjoy watching John perform with David. On days when I don't feel like doing much, I watch and enjoy their videos. Thanks guys.

I have this tape I recorded from the radio many years ago that I love so much that I made an mp3 out it so I can use it in iTunes. It features a country singer and her band that visited our small country. In the middle of the show the singer introduces her band that she named Cross-country. I quote:
“and from Detroit City-we got anybody in the audience tonight from Detroit?- well there’s where our steelman comes from and he is something else, he is only18 years old…on slideguitar Paul Franklin”
She did not mention any strange hairdo, but I could not have cared less, it was radio. But man did I envy that boy that could make those sounds come out of a slideguitar

BTW, the singer was Dottie West.
