Yes another good Okie gone
In the mid to late 70's I was staying at the Holiday Inn in Nashville and he was there - no one knew who he was - he was a demo singer - he just came over and sat and talked on break - it was just guys travlin and this Okie trying to get a song to go in Nashville.
Several years later I was walking through a lobby in (probabily another Holiday Inn) in Dallas and I saw him. He had 2 or 3 songs out by then. He was waiting on a ride and I walked up and spoke. I said you don't remember - and he stopped me right there - we talked at the Holiday Inn in Nashville ----- I can't remember your name but I remember you are an Okie too ---- we laughed and I was saying congratulations on your songs making it - his ride came up and he just told the guy picking him up to wait a minute - he came back over and we talked some more - he then said, "I better go we have to go do a promo for a radio station ---- I think ------ or somethin' like that - things are movin' fast right now and I am hurrin to keep up."
RIP MR Mel ----- we will miss ya but still be listin to the music

I played in a show in Warsaw Mo. that brought in Nashville entertainers from time to time. When we done the show with Mel, I remember what a nice down to earth guy he was. just for fun, after the show I had brought a old Mel McDaniel 8 track tape titled Let It Roll. He got a real kick out of seeing it, and signed it on the front...Thanks Jack Ol Mel
I still have that tape, it will always be special

Oh...I always pause before visiting this page..I wonder which one of my heroes will be listed here...One of my favorite songs to sing was I Can See the Sails of My Ship Coming in..I don't listen to modern country...for obvious reasons...Because the music business isn't producing, or pushing very many REAL, TALENTED Artists...Like Mel...He and Dan Seals were 2 of my all time favorite artists...RIP Mel...we carry the memories of you with us on our journey thru life...

Mel was a great entertainer and a true gentleman. The band I was working with at the time got to open up for Mel back in the late 80's and he was one of the nicest people I'd ever met. We were really nervous because Mel was hot at the time, and he told us jokes, pulled pranks and made us all feel at ease. When we parted ways that night after the show we all felt like we had known him all our lives. He was a true Class Act!! Rest Peacefully Mel.
