Gerry Rafferty passed today,
He will probably be best remembered for His songs
"Baker Street" and "Stuck in the middle with You"
He had been on life support for a little while after having been admitted with liver problems.

I was just listening to "Baker Street" this afternoon as I drove home. It is a happy song, with a message of hope and a belief in the future.

We are losing the musicians who defined our youth; those who spearheaded the "British invasion", those who brought an entirely new sound to our radios. They went beyond established musical forms and fused multiple genres into a sound that was all their own. Gerry Rafferty was just one of these ground-breaking musicians, but he had a unique sound.

I know the passing of time means we must lose this generation of musicians, but it in no way diminishes the sense of loss. RIP Gerry Rafferty - and thanks for being part of our youth.
The steel guitar is a hard mistress. She will obsess you, bemuse and bewitch you. She will dash your hopes on what seems to be whim, only to tease you into renewing the relationship once more so she can do it to you all over again...and yet, if you somehow manage to touch her in that certain magic way, she will yield up a sound which has so much soul, raw emotion and heartfelt depth to it that she will pierce you to the very core of your being.

I put that "City To City" album on my iPod last year and was just listening to last week. Man the steel parts, that BJ Cole put down, work so nice on that album. What ever happened to tasteful pedal steel in pop music?

Rest In Peace Mr. Rafferty, you made some enjoyable music in your short life!

+1 on "Right Down The Line". That tune exposed pedal steel to a huge audience, yet many of the listeners may have not known what kind of instrument it was. I always enjoyed his music.
Steeless.
