Pete Smith

Post by b0b »

I received a Classified Ads donation today from Pete Smith's wife, Pat. Steve English helped her sell Pete's instruments here on the Forum. She included a heart-felt letter that I'd like to share with you.
Pat Smith wrote:My husband, Peter, was a member of the Steel Guitar Forum before he passed away.

I would like to add a very personal note here. It took two years before I could bring myself to deal with all the instruments and gadgets that were in the music room. I called Steve just to ask his advice on where to start. He and his wife, Grace, came over and spent hours here going over everything. He staged things, took pictures, matched power cords to the right item, explained to me what things were.

We talked for a long time and their kindness and understanding touched me greatly. He is a good and generous man and if it's possible to let my appreciation be known publicly on the Forum I would like that. Also, my heartfelt thanks to the Forum enabling me to sell these items.

Thank you,

Pat Smith
You are very welcome, Pat. I'm sorry for your loss, but glad that we were able to help.

Steve English is a good guy, I can vouch for that. Thanks for helping out a fellow musician's widow--it's the right thing to do.

Pete and Pat were friends of mine too. Pete was always ready to help in any way he could if it was 'fixing' my Emmons or swaping steel licks. I would fill in for him sometimes at the Maverick club when he was the house steel player.

Pete always had the best gear and was always looking for a way to make things lighter for travel and faster to set up.
It was at Pete's house where I first got to try the Rev and TC's amp and test drive his keyless GFI. I can't say enough great things about his big heart.

Steve English is also from pure water and one of the best guys around too, always fun to be in a band with Steve and great steel player to boot. I couldn't think of a better person to help Pat.

There was a time when several of the steel players in Tucson would meet up at the jam sessions and I have some video of Steve, Pete and myself from one of the jams at Eddys club on the east side from a few years ago.

I knew Pete for 30+ years I guess, it was a great loss when he left us as a friend and fellow player.
