James (Sonny) Daisinger, Jr.

Post by Jim Saunders »

Sonny died this week in Alabama. He was not widely known, but many of you may recall him as the friendly guy maning Herb Remington's booth in St. Louis and Dallas. Sonny loved country music and steel. He often came to the Katy meetings of the Southeast Texas Steel Guitar Club.

Sadly he had just moved back to his home in Alabama 3 weeks before his passing. He battled esophogus cancer. Age 63.

I, too, will miss Sonny. He visited with me at every Dallas Show and we shared many laughs. One year he sent me pictures from the show. He was truly a kind and positive person.

Sorry to hear of Sonny's passing. He was always so friendly. We even traded some gear around once, and wound up swapping back with no hard feelings. Sonny was a gentleman. I'll miss you, Sonny. jc

I met Sonny at one of the Texas shows and found out that he was originally from Alabama. He has a cousin that is my age and we went to school together. Sonny was a true Southern Gentleman. He took me to dinner one evening with Herb Remington. It was the highlite of the weekend. I always looked forward to the Texas Shows as I knew I would see Sonny. I didn't even know he was ill. May God bless his family. See you on the other side Buddy!

I first met Sonny in St. Louis at the ISGC, at Herb's booth. Herb owed me a refund on a cancellation and he asked if I'd settle for a new NV1000, which was the latest thing back then. I said sure! He gave me the amp and I found out Herb had ordered it for Sonny. When we connected the dots, we both had a laugh.

At another time, I had ordered a new lacquer Mullen that was to take 3 months to build and I had sold my Emmons, so I was without a steel. Sonny had a Mullen D10 and he said I could borrow it until my new one came. He brought it to my house with no charge. He was a nice guy.

Sonny, was a huge fan of Ralph Mooney.
