Great stuff David! Chalker has always been one of my favorites. I see the song is from 1957..Did Chalker play like that already then? An innovator and musical genius for sure.

I think it must be a later version of the song, Curly was playing his Butt of in 57 too///))0 he is one my favorites for sure...

misleading (it is called Heavens Gates) $:\$
Though the website indicates '1957', the
recording being played was recorded in 1967.
Dickens rerecorded his 1957 hit song ten years
later as part of a 'greatest hits' package.

For a few years I never really listened to Curly Chalker. He was on Hee Haw and they never showcased him for the talent he was. A few years later I heard a recording and it blew my mind. I was shocked and ashamed of myself for not finding more out about him. Today, I consider him to be a monster player and especially on the C6th. His passing left me just wanting more of his music. When we look back down the road at history, Curly Chalker has to be one of the all time greats in steel playing.

I first heard this around '68 or 9 and it blew me away. I never pictured Curly getting the call for a session with Tater. I bought the LP and it has been a big plus in my library. He made a few changes to his normal approach but still retained his distinctive, one-of-a-kind, over-the-top, blow-me-away-Sam, Good Night Nurse, style that grabbed me by the neck and has yet, to turn me loose.
