Question re this tuning

Attached is Mapuana TAB. It shows the tuning as: E C# A F# D# B F# B . I recognize the first 4 as A6th.

I don't see this tuning anywhere. Is it a John Ely "special", I see his name on the bottom.

It's B11. The top 4 notes of B11 chord are the same as A6 or F#m7. Stacking 3 of those notes on top of B and D# makes a very useful and fat B9th chord. adding the E on top gets us into familiar A6th territory for melodies.

B11 seems exotic at first, but it's very pretty once you get used to it.

If you do a search you can hear Jerry Byrd playing "Sand" in the B11th tuning.

Andy Volk has a b11 book, which should be good, his other ones are excellent tho i have problems with full tone behind the bar pulls
