I'm glad I got to call him "Friend". Spoke with him about 10 days ago, he was in the hospital and I believe he knew the end was near. He will be missed by the entire steel guitar brotherhood. RIP Bobby

Bobby was a great friend. He called me "Preacher" and he was the essence of what we all try to achieve in loving people. I first met him when I had a Sierra that needed a complete set up. He took it completely apart, set it up for me and it played perfectly when he was finished. I was traveling, so he did the job in a day even though I found out he had stayed up all night to complete the job before I had to leave town. Bobby worked on several of my guitars over the years, and he had the unique gift of knowing exactly what a player wanted.

I will miss his friendship and his warm smile. I will miss the sweet tone of that Red Emmons guitar he played so smoothly. There are some very special people who pass through your life and leave a lasting impression. Bobby Bowman was one of those special friends.

Very sad news. My wife, Kathy and I want to send along our deepest condolences to Toni and family. I feel very blessed indeed to feel like I became friends with Bobby if only over the last several years. We've had many enjoyable conversations together; In person at the Dallas Jamboree, as well as the telephone. More recently, I was very honored to have been able coordinate our efforts to finish up a guitar project for him that he was not up to completing, for one of his customers there in Texas.

May you rest in peace, Bobby. I'm sure we'll all meet up with you again...

Sincerely,
Lynn and Kathy Stafford

My first time at the Dallas Show we only knew a handful of people. We didn't know who Bobby was then but walked up to his friendly smile, told him it was our first time and he befriended us and made us feel right at home just like he had known us for a long time. When we left that Sunday he met us at our truck as we were loading up to leave and we gave us a friendly good bye. Very special person and I'm glad we had the pleasure of meeting and talking to him.....God bless the Bowman family........clark and lucy

The sheer number of posts that this thread will generate is a wonderful testament to the man...Cindy and I made sure we made the benefit a few weeks ago...I hugged him...and I told him i loved him, which I did...On my computer at home is the interview I did with him 2 years ago at the OK show. Id been working on editing it for a few days, but hadn't finished yet....ill post a link here on his thread, as well as Steel Players, when i do....

Bobby's family and many friends have our thoughts and prayers. He was a very special kinda man...talented and knowledgeable about many things and a real people person who was also very kind. I recall his quick wit too. Some years ago there was some flooding due to extreme rain and I called to make sure he was OK. He said he'd be fine if he could keep the white bass outta his tomato plants. Blessings on your journey Bobby.

Bobby always had a smile and good laugh for me at the shows. He was one of those very few people who I bonded with the first time we met. The only picture I could find was at the Texas show in 2013 with Bobby and Junior Knight.

I got the news early Sunday that a hero and mentor had passed. I spent the day remembering Bobby. I even went into my steel room to play some. Guys I just could not bring myself to even remove the cover. Bobby always had a smile and some kinds words. I am a much better person for knowing and being able to be around him. In the time I knew him he never was a flashy player. We sat and talked one day at his home about what we want out of playing. I started way to late in life to ever be a great player but he left me with this Nugget. He said son anybody can play fast and loose. The trick is to play the few notes you can play and make the best of those. Always be yourself and try to bring every note clear and in tune. There is a hole the size of the grand canyon in my heart. Prayers to Toni and the family from Anna and I. I know he is with our buddy Jody.

Bobby Bowman was like a "favorite Uncle" to me. He was the one I would see at a steel show, like a family reunion when you were a kid, and I knew as soon as I saw him it was going to be a good time. His enthusiasm for steel guitar and its players was inspiring. Myself, like so many in the steel guitar community will miss seeing him and knowing he was just a phone call away if you needed him. Whether it be over a steel guitar related problem or just to simply talk. I feel a void in my heart, but I will gladly carry that in exchange to know his pain and suffering are over.
My sincerest sympathies and condolences to Toni, her and Bobby's family.

I got my first D-10 from Bobby. He was so integral and helpful to me getting started playing. And he always remembered a name it seemed... I didn't meet him in person until the 2012 DFW show, but he saw my name tag and welcomed me like we were best friends. I was glad to know him.

Rest in Peace, Bobby.
