Don't Derbys have Aluminmum necks? Yes but I think Tommy was playing a Mullen not to be confused with a Mullen Image about that time. But I think his Mullen had aluminmun necks. Image

You are correct that he was using a Mullen, Bobby. He mentions that in the article, and for amps it's Sho-Bud and Evans.

Tommy would sound good on a concrete guitar, and Stradivarious hardly made any of those, the only one I ever heard was the one Louise Mandrell played.

Hi all. Interesting chain of conversation.
I think a great player can do anything that interests him, and that he can make his fingers and instrument do. If your at a country gig play country, but maybe quote from other sources occasionally.
But if the instrument can do something you want it to do... just do it, and listen to no ones carping about style.
I once quoted both Bartoks Concerto for Orchestra finale and a Pee Wee Russel clarinet line from Fats Whaller back to back on a Ovation acoustic at a blues jam in an irish bar. I got a free Guiness from someone for my trouble who couldn't believe I did it. Better yet the recognised both and loved it.
So ignore those stuck in their own style police ruts and just make GOOD MUSIC anyway you want.

Well, wait 'till you see the artical I wrote for Terry Wendts new steel guitar magizine. I just realized that I said what amounts to to same thing,in other words. I guess I must still sort of feel that way,"wanting to see steel branch out into a more widely accepted musical instrument.
The way to do this is to "expand" the styles that it plays.
Don't worry about how old so and so plays "Way to Survive",just listen to all kinds of music and play steel guitar like a musical instrument.
The new steel guitar magizine should be a good one.

Bobbe

Also, the rumour about me doing my next album with the Brian Setzer Orch. looks like it's going to happen so possibly my dream may happen also. Believe me, this one CD won't be "whiney". Thank goodness, the lable will be paying this bill. I might have been more prophetic than I knew. (No, I don't mean pathetic).

yep, edited for spelling, again.
[This message was edited by BobbeSeymour on 19 February 2003 at 08:15 AM.]

[This message was edited by BobbeSeymour on 20 February 2003 at 05:09 PM.]
