I had the pure pleasure of going over to Jimmy Crawford's house a few nights ago to check out one of his AWESOME!!! guitars that he had just finished. Buck Reid was there and he sat down behind that guitar and just blew my mind. He was playing some of the stuff that he's gonna have on his new CD coming out pretty soon and I was mezmerized. Be on the lookout for Buck's new CD...I'm sure there'll be a post or two (hundred!) here on the Forum and if you ever get the chance to play one of Jimmy's "Rolls Royce" guitars... DO IT!!! You'll be glad you did. So pertaining to the post... Buck Reid gets my vote!

I go with Johan on this one - so far I´ve heard only a few tracks by Robert Randolph, but what he does impressed me for sure.

He is not new, but we don't see him often enough,I am talking about Randy Beaver. He is a great player and always has a refreshing set. He has my utmost respect as a genleman as well as a player.

He will be in Dallas at the TSGA show in March. If you have not heard him come and see for your self.

There are so many great well known players out there that we all know what to expect from at the mere mention of their names.I go to st Louis because I want to see the "creme de la creme"so to speak...With great shows as Dallas and thruout the entire Country springing up, what a future for the instrument.. During the past year I have been lucky enough to witness some new not in the limelight great performances by players who play in and around the upper eastern states. What we all know now is there are many builders of the Pedal steel and price ranges from the affordable to the go in debt for but certainly worth it.It is nice to see a younger generation latching on to the instrument and with the influence of the past and still present Masters, each year produces future greats...I don't know of any other instrument that has it's own Hall of fame honoring the greats, many full arena packed shows.Thats why one should attend and support the shows, buy the product(usually produced by the player himself) when they come to their area.I have yet to hear of anyone not fully enjoying what they went to see and hear.Nice to see others have felt the same.

Joe-New players I have heard in 2002 in person come to mind. Jim Cohen and Larry Bell and Frank Rogers. All top notch players in my opinion.

Happy Holidays...al Image Image Image
