I would definitely give it a 2 year trial subscription and renew if I live that long.

Having been down that road before, I would not be interested, what with internet access to everything imaginable and especially the Forum. I've learned MORE right here in two years than I did from any magazine or newsletter. b0b's page provides instant NEWS where a magazine has to have lead time for its articles then printing and mailing and what you get is often out of date.
I also don't like paying big bucks (anything over $2.50) up front and getting stiffed........for whatever reason relating to management.
Subscriptions seldom can carry the weight of the publication expenses and when advertisers fail to pay for their space, the publication is usually doomed in short order.

Terry- a good idea, we need more publicity for the steel guitar.

However , don't forget guys, there is one and has been faithful to us for over 25 years and that is "the Pedal Steel Guitar " monthly newsletter published by Bob Maickel, President of the Pedal Steel Guitar association, for only $25. a year.

These guys need our support....al Image Image

I'm in, dude. What do you estimate the cost would be? Ain't that many steel players out there but I could deal with $5 or so a copy for a monthly.

It looks like it can be published for about $5.00 per copy + postage.

So, I think that's 24 YES's to 4 NO's
... since I'm keepin' track Image

Not very interested. Already receive the Newsletter and there's this great Forum. In the future, it would be terrific if an online magazine could be created, just log on and buy a subscription. There'd be photo's, interviews, monthly columns,Q&A, a tour of a steel builder's or accessory builder's manuf. shops(Peavey,Webb,Carter,Zum etc.), photo's or streaming video from conventions and local jams, a drop-in visit to one of Paul's or Sonny's or whoever's recording sessions, all kinds of possibilities. Of course it won't reach those in the steelplayer community who aren't online, it's their loss. I wish you all the best if you decide to go for it with your print magazine, tho.

Would it be totally cost prohibitive to have a video magazine? Too impractical and labor intensive? It would be wonderful to get one about once a quarter. The possibilities for interviews, clips of performances, tabs being played, convention footage, advertisers, etc. would be phenomential. It is probably the same old problem...just not enough steel players to support it. It might have a chance where magazines have failed. The video format would not compete with the forum.

Terry:

I would support a magazine dedicated to steel guitar. But like some others have said, be careful not to overextend yourself.

Terry,
YES, YES, and YES.
I hope that it turns out OK. I would support ANYTHING on our great instrument and the great players and builders and everyone who makes our "Toys" that go along with it.
As far as a Video....GREAT idea, IMHO.
Good Luck, Terry, and keep us posted. Image

Terry, you're a good man for even thinking about this idea. Now, I'm sure you're well aware that the last fellow who tried this trick lost house and home and hasn't been heard from since...

I'll certainly support you with a subscription if you're bold enough to venture into this, but please be careful out there!
