Just go up to the bandleader and ask who owns the PA System, who has some extra strings in case the lead guitarist breaks one, and which band member has a hernia. These questions will lead you right to the steel player.

Hi Jimmy,
You know what, when I got that steel up here, I took it apart and oiled everything up and put my setup on it and oiled it up some more, because Skipp said it hadn't been broken in yet. Well let me tell you, that steel has been moved from place to place and I've played a few gigs outside this last summer when it cooled off and it never varied in tuning. I tune her straight up 440 and the only string that goes out even a little is the high G#. It is a joy to play, never had a steel stay in that good, even the cabinet drop is minimal. How are you doing these days Jimmy and thanks for helping me out when I bought that steel. Hope this finds you doing well and take care.
Your Buddy

PS: Did a couple of sessions two weeks ago and she sounds great on tape too. Nice Axe

He's the Guy (or Gal) that is stting at That table with wire on top and holding a shiney thing that looks sort of like a big fat plug...He (or She) IS ALSO THE MOST INTELIGENT LOOKING ONE IN THE BUNCH!! and NO ONE would say the wrong thing..for fear of loosing thier good health. or She ALSO act just a little arrogent....and have an "I DON"T GIVE A S--t attitude , unless the Bass player hits a bad note..or the drummer misses a lick...or the Damned primadona singer screews up some how. He's also the one that's running neck to neck with the drummere and /or Sound man who takes the longest to get set up amd teardown....and...He or she is ussually the Oldest looking ..'cause it takes so damned long to learn how to play!!!!!!!! and pay for the instument!!!!!Unless You own the store!!

When I'm playing I can tell a steel guitar player because he usually comes in brazenly and sits right in fron of the steel. My wife says its when they dance by. If there's a crowded dance floor he asks his significant other to dance. Now in Texas it's a constant circle around the dance floor, but the steel guitarist always works his way to the steel and kina stops there. After a while the sinificant other kinda bumps him on around. I've seen Bert Rivera does this at the Dallas Show when Tommy Morrels band was plaing the dance show.

... he's the one who everyone comes to inthe band when they need to borrow a set of pliers, wire cutters, stringwinder, allen wrenches, aspirin etc..

... someone needs to build a small cooler into a pac-a-seat for keepin' the beer cold *laugh*

He's also the one who goes over every once in awhile and kicks his old tube-type amp to stop it from "frying eggs" because of a leaky capacitor.

How Do You Determine Who Is The Steel Player In The Band?

Simple:
1) He's the one that is teaching the band how to tune!
2) He's the only one that can read music!
3) He secretly hides the drumsticks and just happens to have a set of light weight sticks in the pac-a-seat.
