Ah Hah! I figured it out Jim.
You can't go to bed at night with your picks still on! (insert smiley face here). That's bound to cause some discomfort.
Just kidding of course but Paul did have a point about how the steel can challenge us ergonomically. A new volume pedal I had received with my Carter mounted on the pedal bar. It had a different feel to it and angle. For a while I remember getting achy shin muscles till I became acustomed to it. Another steel player I know had knee troubles after switching volume pedals. Interesting how small changes or even repetitive motions over time can create troubles or permanent habitual trademarks (like bad posture). In Paul's case it was a difference in relative muscle mass in the arms.
Hmmm if we could just figure out a way to rig the steel up where we could play it from our Lazyboy recliners!?.

My wife is one of the 'puter princesses' down at the LA Weekly. She has Carpal Tunnel to the point where she has her arms propped up with braces, mouse for one hand, tablet for the other and she alternates them back and forth. We've also spent a small fortune on acupuncture.
About 4 months ago, the Chiro started her on a program where she simply did exercises using wrist weights and the improvement has been remarkable.

Best thing I ever did for the 'C6 problem' was to get one of those inversion tables. You need traction to stretch the spine a bit for many pinched nerve problems, especially at C4-6 or so. I lie on this table and then tip over and hang upside down for a few minutes each day to take the weight off my neck. Works great and it's very relaxing.
