T.C. - It is quite possible that the minimal peak-limiting that I do mimics the compression characteristics of a speaker. As I also share your dislike of the over-preponderance of super-high frequencies, I dedicate the top band of the parametric - made by Audio Arts, a far cry from what ART sells - to managing the 7KHz and up response, so yes, that is pretty much what I'm doing, using the electronics to get what the amp and speaker do naturally - probably why it took me so many years to get it right!
