This is the oldest pic I have-"The Nightwinds",December 1960.A Christmas party in The Oak Room at Toronto Union Station. The piano player whose face my right elbow so neatly obscures is a very young Doug "Doctor Music" Riley. You heard him(much later on)playing piano and organ on the studio version of "Night Moves".

Great pictures and stories. Amazing hair, Herb. I used to have a lot more than I have now. Poco and the Flying Burrito Brothers are two of the reason I wanted to learn steel guitar. I liked Rock until it started to be more about chainsaw guitar, then I began listening to more country. Any more pictures out there gentlemen?

1965, The Valiants ( I drove a 64 Plymouth Valiant..haha)
Anyway, I loved that Fender Jazzmaster...bought it used in '63 for $220 and it must have been a late 50s model, not sure when Fender starting making them, but I literally slept with that guitar...wish I still had it ! We had two Sears Silvertone piggy back amps.

We thought we were pretty hot stuff playing on the local radio station for a commercial. We had great times tho.

Here I am at my 2nd gig ever in 1968 with my band "Anaconda"...First Presbyterian Church "coffehouse", Flushing, NY. Playing my mid-60s Fender Mustang, about a year after I switched to playing righty at the instistance of my guitar teacher (I am otherwise left-handed). He told me I would never be any good playing a guitar upside down. Guess he never heard of Jimi Hendrix. Daisy chained a '64 Princeton & Heathkit amp for more power, so I could be heard over the Farfisa organ!
2nd pic is me playing my PP D-10 with Charlie Daniels,Steve Cropper(jean leg in background)Doug Supernaw(back to camera) & Marshall Tucker, around 2000.

Around 1967
My band was called the "Buffalo Bombers"! We could be arrested for that name now! Did a lot of Beatles, Creedence, BB King, and yep some Hank Williams Sr., I played a Supro Lat Steel tuned in E on "Hey Good Lookin'" and "Your Cheatin' Heart." this was around 1967. That's me in the middle with my Dan Electro Bass which was one of the best Basses I ever had, bought it in a pawn shop back then for $35, had a straight neck and it sounded great! Unfortunately it got stolen.

Great picture, John. I bet you guys were the "bomb!"
There were lots of Supro and Danelectro guitars and basses around back in the 60s, along with Harmony and Kay products that were also sold under different brand names like Silvertone. My brother played through a Silvertone bass amp that had tubes and two 12" speakers. I don't know who made it but it sounded good.
