Fred and Dovie were mainstays of The West Texas Steel Guitar Assn.up until his health started failing. Most of the videos on Youtube were taken by Dovie. Fred was an encourager. What I knew of him was so interesting, I always wanted to know more. My favorite story about him was the one where he handstarted Bobbie Seymours airplane and that wasn't all that many years ago. Phred, you will be missed. Hope I can make it up there to see you some day.

Very sad news. Phred seemed like a good man who had a very humanitarian outlook. Above all he was an animal lover and respecter of animals, and to me that is a key ingredient in being a wonderful human being.

oh man,, I am so sorry to hear this.. I really liked old Fred, he was always a sweetheart of a man.. We talked about those old Fender cable jobs a bunch of times.. Fred liked them a lot, and that was part of the reason I got involved with them.. Rest easy Phred, you are missed already... bob

When my wife was suffering with cancer, Fred did a "Sweat Lodge" ceremony on her behalf, and obviously it helped as she is still with me. May the wind be at your back as you ride into the great beyond old friend.
