I'm at a loss for words, Weldon is the reason I play steel. His playing and kind heart were the biggest influence on my playing. Condolences to his family and rest in peace Weldon, the best of the best.

The last time I seen Weldon he was playing in Madison at The Grand Ole Garage with his hand bandaged up. They cut something off his hand that day but he was there to play never thinking of anything else. I've got some pictures somewhere of that night. Rest in peace Weldon. He was a giant gentlemen among us for a while. God rest his soul.

He was very important in my life, even though we never met and I didn't know a ton of his music. But his playing on the James Gang record really connected with me as a young boy.

Weldon
My sympathy to Weldon's family. We have lost another one of a generation of players that we all loved and tried in vain to emulate. There will be other players come along but, none with the impact Weldon and players of his time left on us. To me it's almost like the passing of the era of Roy Rogers and Gene Autry.

Weldon and I have been Friends and Masonic Brothers for many years. We have played together on the OPRY for many years, laughed, talked and joked together. In our humor I named him "Welephant". He was a giant in my sight and my heart. We all know about this man's talent.I just wanted to talk about the man and the friendship....but, saying Goodbye leaves me without any more words. My Prayers and thoughts for Judy and the Whole Family. Peace be to you All. Ron Elliott.
