In the 1960's I worked with a band that played in Wilburton monthly. I don't remember knowing Jim back then and he didn't remember me, but we have exchanged e-mails in recent years.

He is another loss to our small fraternity of steel players from that era that is disappearing.

God speed Jim, and I send my sincere sympathy to your family.

I had the pleasure of meeting Jim and his wife Annie several years ago at Renfro Valley, KY. They had driven all the way from Wilberton to pick up his D-11 ZB that I had put back together for him. He was also a U.S. Army, Viet Nam Veteran. He gave me some pics of him playing his ZB in Viet Nam. If I can get them scanned, I will post them here. Rest in peace my friend.

Well Folks, We put Jim Florence to rest this afternoon. Had lunch served by Highbridge Baptist Church at noon. Members did a good job. Had a gun salute and bugle taps from V.F.W. Good weather also.
Also present were two of the original Maverick Band members from when they were working the Dunes in Hawaii,(Tex Cloud & Johnny H_______). My Thanks to all who helped. J.R.
