Hearing Vance Terry's playing on Brisbane Bop has changed my life. Up to this point I've resisted picking up a steel, out of fear of never practicing the banjo again, but I'm not sure I can hold off any longer.

Does anyone know who may have Vance's Sierra steel that Chuck Wright built for him? The last I heard, it was in the possession of Wendell and Charlotte Moore (who lived in Vacaville or Fairfield, California). I've been told that they both have passed on and that some relative now has that guitar. The guitar's whereabouts is still unknown. I learned that the Moore folks have passed on. I have no other clues as to who might have taken possession of Vance's guitar. I did learn of his Webb amp. I restored it to the best of my ability for the owner, who then sold it to a friend of mine.

Since what Norm wants is to draw out the same sounds Vance did would it not make sense to go to one of the foremost technicians of all time Paul Franklin who could provide him with a sense of what tuning would work best?

This is a common, shared experience. Besides the well-known expertise of these two monsters, Jimmie and Vance, this is one of the most uplifting pieces of music ever recorded. "Brisbane Bop" lives on top of my CD player at home.
