I worked for Saga Music for a very short time a few years ago and got to play many of their Regal line of resonator guitars. I found that most of them sounded better in open D (bass to treble D A D F# A D) or open E (E B E G# B E) rather than bluegrass open G (G B D G B D).Richard Sinkler wrote: 11 Aug 2025 4:08 pm Well, my Regal RD 40 now has a Beard Legend cone and actually sounds pretty good. It is tuned to open D.
A band I have been working with lately does "Deeper Than the Holler" by Randy Travis. It's got some good dobro parts. They do it in E, and while I can play the intro and turnarounds on my G dobro, it is so much easier and sounds better on the D Dobro, with a capo on the 2nd fret.

True. I also have a Recording King "Professional" tuned to G. The Regal became a D tuning after I got the Recording King. I also put a Beard Legend cone in the Regal, and it sounds pretty decent.Brad Bechtel wrote: 16 Aug 2025 8:47 pmI worked for Saga Music for a very short time a few years ago and got to play many of their Regal line of resonator guitars.
