I wish to second (third?) the nomination of Marshall Hall. A truly magnificent player.

Also, Susan Alcorn, who in addition to her avant grarde work is also a master at traditional E9 country, and Gerry Walker who makes the Stereo Steel amps. Gerry is a total monster. He's about as good as anybody I've ever heard.

RANDY BEAVERS!!
At our last NTSGA "SuperJam",Randy played along w/ John Hughey & Hal Rugg. While Hal & John were jammin' along on C6th,Randy kept right up w/ them on E9th!! He is equally adept on C6th.
Also,as mentioned above,Hank Corwin.

And in case you want to check out my opinion on these guys, Steve is playing The Pam Tillis spots this year in Branson and if you'll attend our 10th annual Branson Jam "Pickin Party" at The Baldknobbers Theater Sunday July 27th you can judge Kevin for yourselves. Oh yes--while there take in The Paul Harris Show and enjoy the talents of Terry Bethel , another great.-

O.K., I waited and waited...but no one mentioned Ivan Greyhausen from Gladewater,TX.
This goes back quite a few years,but during the '50's and '60's he scarred many a young picker with his incredible single-string work. He stretched strings with his bar-hand to simulate pedals and played rhythm liks like Sacred Steelers do now. The guy was way ahead of his time.

Allow me to add a few : Ron Elliott, Zane King, Kenny Forbess, Sonny Garrish, Weldon Myrick, Gene Lacy, Donna Hammitt, Sarah Jory, Charlie Owen, Eral Logan, Delores Hancock, Mike Sweeney, and Terry Crisp . These pickers aren't really lesser knowns, but they are just a few of my favorites.

Danny Mahomed, Dave Robbins, Tommy Hannum, three Nashville steel players that haven't been mentioned yet who are incredible musicians. Junior Mercer, now playing at the " Country Tonight" theatre in Pigion Forge, E9, C6, midi, he's not only a great player but he played a major role in the production of the Doug Jernigan Jazz cd.

One of the most unsung steel players I have ever known is from Muskegon, Michigan.
His name is Leroy Kocher.
I remember back in the middle fifties when I was first getting introduced to country music, Leroy would pull out that multi-chord and hit some of the finest pedal licks that you would ever want to hear.
That was my first introduction to pedal steel and Leroy was and still is one of the finest. He played using his right little finger on the volume and only a thumb pick.
He had a chance to play with one of the big stars in Nashville in the late fifties but he turned it down because he was in love.
