Scotty gave so much, for so many decades, he is irreplaceable. What an amazing man and an amazing legacy. Humblest and most sincere condolences to all his friends and his family.
RIP Scotty, and thanks for all you did, from all of us.

The steel guitar is a hard mistress. She will obsess you, bemuse and bewitch you. She will dash your hopes on what seems to be whim, only to tease you into renewing the relationship once more so she can do it to you all over again...and yet, if you somehow manage to touch her in that certain magic way, she will yield up a sound which has so much soul, raw emotion and heartfelt depth to it that she will pierce you to the very core of your being.

Scotty was/is, the preeminent purveyor of all things Steel Guitar. I had the opportunity to get to know him, and his wonderful family in the early to mid 70s. I can remember visiting his store in the mid 70s while on a gig in St. Louis and I was very impressed with his congeniality and hospitality. Scotty was a walking "encyclopedia" on all things "Steel Guitar". He flew up to Michigan in the 70s to take part in a show that featured Emmons, Tharpe, Anderson, Jernigan, along with Jimmy Bryant and John Gore
all on the same stage at the same time....over the years we would chat, many times, about that show. Scotty was always "ready, willing, and able" to help a Steel Player in need...and on short notice. I will never forget how He and Sandy bailed us out on a Dave and Sugar tour gig when our Amps did not make it to the venue...and all of this at the last minute!!! Thank you Scotty for your hard work, dedication, kindness, and your devotion to the Steel Guitar community. You will not be forgotten by any of us...RIP my friend.

My heart and condolences go out to the Scott family. I'm a late comer & never got to know him well, but he established a little Mecca here on Midland Blvd. that changed my life.
Excel Superb D10, Sarno Black Box, Goodrich L120, various effects into a Sarno Spectrum preamp feeding a Jay Ganz Straight Ahead into pair of JBL K130 loaded cabs.
They say "thats how it goes". I say "that ain't the way it stays!"

So sorry to hear this. I've known Scotty for 30+ years and have had dealings with him and his store apart from his convention which I attended about 8 times over the years. He was always a good friend and a straight shooter business wise and the Excel 12 string I've played for the last 10 years I bought new from him. By providing an international focal point with his annual convention and its gathering of players, vendors and enthusiasts he did more than anyone one could name to put steel guitar on the map in the consciousness of the public at large. I hope his convention will continue into the foreseeable future. It was always a world class event. It would be a shame to see it wind down. R.I.P Scotty.

Well I didn't know him or have the occasion to say much to him during the ten or so conventions I attended but I read every single post from those who did. It's obvious he was much more than a "promoter" of the steel guitar, he was genuinely liked as a person.
Literally thousands of steel players have had a positive influence on their careers because of his efforts, including me.
What a great legacy he leaves.
My condolences to the Scott family.

Thanks for everything, Scotty.
When I first began playing, you sold me that sparkling new blonde Sho-Bud D-10 & brought players like Herby Wallace, Jimmy Crawford and others to the 4 day conventions in Norway. There, steel guitar was made more comprehensible, with the added bonus of big time fun.
Yes, I have your newsletters here with me in Beijing and re-read the articles which remain relevant to this day...history of the pedal steel and instruction condensed for us.
Mostly, thanks for being a "character" who made us laugh. As Mike P said, quoting Buddy Emmons about you, you touched so many of us.
Condolences to your family and to all of us who will miss and remember you fondly. Steve

I'm so sorry to read this. Scotty helped a local promoter put on a steel guitar show in Reno in 1982. I was asked by my pal Ernie Hagar to play and I was terrified because all the other players were great- Buddy, J.D. Sneaky Pete, etc. Scotty was so nice and encouraging to me. Scotty was always kind every time we saw each other.
Like so many others, I owe Scotty so much and will miss seeing him at conventions. Mary, we are praying for you and your family in this time of loss. May God bless and keep all of you in His arms.
